Angeion History
In May 1986, Angeion
Corporation was incorporated
in Minnesota for the purpose of developing, manufacturing
and selling medical products. The Company initially engaged in
contract manufacturing while designing proprietary products.
In
1988, the Company merged with Verde Ventures Incorporated, a public
company. The merged entity took the name Angeion Corporation, and
Angeion thus became a public company. (Nasdaq: ANGN)
In 1990, the Company acquired a company engaged
in automatic implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) systems,
and for the next decade, the design and manufacture of ICDs was
Angeion’s primary business.
In 1999, Angeion acquired Medical
Graphics Corporation (www.medgraphics.com),
a company engaged in the design and manufacture of gas exchange
metabolic analyzers for the diagnosis of cardiorespiratory diseases.
These systems were marketed under the brand MedGraphics to the
hospital, clinic and physicians’ office market.
In
2000 also, Angeion discontinued its ICD operations and focused
exclusively its core strength as a manufacturer and marketer of
leading edge cardiorespiratory diagnostic
equipment.
In 2001, the Company adapted its technology for use in physical
conditioning, weight loss and athletic training. The Company introduced
the New Leaf brand (www.newleaffitness.com),
as the umbrella brand for its health and fitness club products.
